Daycare work at the VEBS

The VEBS supports all those who want to set up a (free) Protestant daycare center that employs only believers.

We regularly offer free daycare start-up seminars and webinars(information and registration here) – this page provides an initial overview!

As soon as the supporting association is founded and registered as an e.V., founding initiatives are also invited to become members of the VEBS – membership of an umbrella organization often helps a lot with the authorities! And above all, you are networked with other like-minded daycare centers throughout Germany and can benefit from their knowledge and experience. Membership of the VEBS is free until the start of the daycare center, after that it is minimal.

Information about founding a Christian daycare center

Do you want to offer children a Christian upbringing, education and care during the day?

Do you want to offer the many searching parents more than just “care” – namely loving relationships with their children on a Christian basis?

There is an urgent need for this in many regions of Germany, and the state is even providing large amounts of financial support.

Daycare centers can be operated with practically no equity capital and – with differences depending on the federal state – usually without their own subsidies.

How this can work economically and which concepts and ideals are needed, which pedagogical principles are important and how to find like-minded people as well as donors – all this can be found here (or in seminars that we offer).

Have courage – start a daycare center! After saying “yes” to your child, it could be one of the most meaningful decisions of your life.
The Christian kindergartens in the Verband Evangelischer Bekenntnisschulen und Kitas (German national association of free evangelical schools and pre-schools) are guided by the Bible in their work and generally only employ staff who are believers (this is legal and not discriminatory because, as a “tendency company”, we are part of the diversity that the German Social Code VIII requires as federal law for daycare centers in § 3. The General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) expressly permits this in Section 9 because we are an association “that makes the communal cultivation of a religion its task”.

Of course, you have to bring the most important things with you: Trust in God, optimism and drive. And you need a team of like-minded people – because it is almost impossible to set up a daycare center on your own.

Partial steps towards the foundation could be:

  1. Determination of requirements
  2. Formation of a founding team
  3. Attend a seminar on setting up a daycare center
  4. Development of a pedagogical concept as the foundation of the work
  5. Foundation of a legal entity (e.g. registered association)
  6. Networking with local politics and municipal administration
  7. Preparation of a financial concept / agreements with the municipal administration
  8. Search for a building / conversion to a daycare center or new building
  9. Search for suitable employees
  10. Conclusion of contract with parents
Your schedule depends very much on the individual circumstances in your region. Do you want to set up your daycare center in a daycare center shortage area – or would you become a serious competitor to existing daycare centers? Both are possible, but only in the first case will you be supported by the authorities. In the second case, you will need more time for the start-up phase. Is it possible to find a building that can be converted quickly – or is it difficult? A lot depends on your schedule. Or do you have to plan a new building? That also takes considerably more time than converting an existing store, for example. If you have found your team, if you have agreed on a pedagogical concept, if you have founded a supporting association and if you have a building in prospect in which a daycare center can be approved after a conversion – then the inauguration of your new daycare center is realistic within a year from this point.
